Some people buy filters to further process their tap water before drinking it. Some refrigerators include water filters in door units. Depending on the manufacturer and design, these filters remove contaminants that may — or may not — be found in tap water. i’m supposed to make a filter from a 2L pop bottle cut in half.I can use anything except heat source. I must have fresh water in the end. My teacher will prepare the mixture with-gravel,sand, cooking oil, table salt, food coloring and confetti(tiny size).

why is that. it looks like a white dust in the water. If you let it set for a few minutes it will almost completely dissolve. I’d like to know what that is, and if its bad to drink.
the water filter is supposed to be really sophisticated, and be of better quality than arrowhead bottled water.

i’ve noticed a definite difference in the quality of water from los angeles vs. las vegas or hawaii. i’ve recently vacationed at the latter cities and despite my frequent showers (at the beach, pool and hotel rooms) my skin didn’t feel dry at all.
But once i returned to my home my hair and skin have felt significantly dryer. i’ve been considering a water filter for the whole house or a soft water system. by the way, i’m not sure if there’s a difference. but i’m wondering if either of these will make any difference. i’ve already installed a filtered shower head, but i couldn’t notice a big difference.

I spend $35 to replace the carbon filter on my water filter/pitcher every few months. Would the activated carbon used by home distillers be as good an option to filter my water? The exact brand I’m thinking about is Prestige stone activated carbon (.4-1.4mm), and I would be running it through a coffee filter in the existing housing on my water pitcher.
Can any chemists – amateur or professional – tell me if this would be a good or bad idea?

I forget the type of filter, but on the top part (before the filter) tons of little black things keep coming out of it. This happens for all the filters even brand new. I noticed sometimes very small ones can get into my filtered water. What is this substance and is it safe?

I am looking for a water filter to put on my sink faucet. Does anyone know what filter is the best for removing chemicals, especially chlorine and flouride?
